Amanah Warisan Negara (AWAN) or the National Heritage Trust was established on 10th January 2018 under the Trustees Incorporation Act (1952) (TIA) which is overseen by the Legal Matters Section (Bahagian Hal Ehwal Undang-Undang “BHEUU”) of the Prime Minister’s Department (Jabatan Perdana Menteri “JPM”).
Current role of AWAN:
To protect the land, buildings and facilities within Taman Tugu; and
To manage, operate, monitor and maintain Taman Tugu.
AWAN’s longer-term role:
Undertake more rejuvenation & rehabilitation projects and/or operations of selected spaces together with Malaysia’s heritage & cultural assets of national significance – as inspired by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty or commonly known as the National Trust UK.
AWAN’s Objectives
For the benefit of the Malaysian public and future generations..
to undertake projects that involve the rejuvenation, rehabilitation, conservation and/or operations of selected assets (national, cultural and/or historical importance);
to obtain, conserve, preserve, and promote the preservation of these assets, and for the prevention of their destruction or disfigurement, their natural aspect features and animal and plant life;
to promote to and raise awareness among the public, especially Malaysian citizens, of the importance of environmental protection and preservation of assets;
to allow, encourage, maintain, facilitate public access to the assets comprising the Trust Property subject to any relevant Contributor’s Conditions;
to promote and portray to the world, in their best light, Malaysia’s heritage as well as its assets of national, cultural and/or historical importance.
